6 Ways to Enjoy Ramadan Insha’Allah

downloadRamadan is expected to begin on May 27, 2017 insha’Allah. Here are 6 Ways to Enjoy Ramadan insha’Allah:

1. Remind Yourself That Fasting is the Dearest Act of Worship To Allah

Allah (swt) says in a hadith qudsi, “Every deed of the son of Adam is for him except fasting; it is for Me and I shall reward for it…” (Bukhari, Muslim)

What is meant by “fasting is for Me” is that it is the dearest act of worship to Allah. Islamic scholar Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr (may Allah have mercy upon him) said that the words “Fasting is for Me” indicate the superiority of fasting over all other acts of worship.

The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:

“Whosoever fasts in Ramadan with faith and seeking Allah’s reward, all his past sins are forgiven.” [Agreed upon]

2. Read the Quran in Your Own Language, with Commentary, And Relate It To Your Life

Ramadan was the month in which the Holy Quran was revealed for our guidance. We should strive to understand the Quran’s message and relate it to our lives. Besides reading the Quran in my language, I enjoy watching tafsir videos on youtube, such as this one:

3. Work on a goal for Allah (swt) that uses your interests and creativity

It is fun to use your creativity for doing something positive for Allah’s sake. I enjoy writing and I actually worked on my first book during Ramadan–“The Basic Values of Islam: Alphabetically Listed With Islamic References.” This E-book is available for free on my website at The Basic Values of Islam Free E-book

Some people enjoy creating art, organizing meetings, making videos, etc. All of these creative activities can be turned into an Islamic project during Ramadan.

4. Write down all of the areas in your life that need improvement and then make duas in those areas!
“Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah SWT), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the one who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler.” [The Prophet Muhammad, pbuh, as recorded in Sahih At-Tirmidthi and al-Bayhaqi]

I love to turn my problems and weaknesses into a means to get closer to Allah (swt). I believe that I was able to lose the weight I wanted to lose because of a dua I made in Ramadan.

5. Stay up for the Entire Night of the “Night of Power” (or Night of Decree)

Lalatul-Qadr, the Night of Power or Decree, is the greatest night of the year. It is the night that the Holy Quran was first revealed. It is “better than a thousand months” (97:3). Therefore, to worship Allah (swt) on this night is like worshiping for 83 years and 4 months.

It is one of the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan. Many scholars believe that the Night of Power is the 27th night (which begins on the evening of the 26th of Ramadan, or June 21).

Other than formal prayers, other ways to remember Allah on this night include: 1) reading the Holy Quran, 2) reciting Allah’s beautiful names, 3) sending blessings on the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), 4) Asking Allah’s forgiveness, 5) reflecting on Allah’s creations, and 6) any good deed that you do for the sake of Allah.

(Hint: Drinking coffee will help you to stay awake on this night.)

6. Invite people to your home for iftar dinner (fast-breaking meal).

Generosity and relationships bring joy to our lives, as well as blessings.

The Prophet (pbuh) said:

“Whoever gives iftaar to one who is fasting will have a reward like his, without that detracting from the reward of the fasting person in the slightest.” (Sahih Tirmidhi)

    I want to know about shabaab.. fasting on 15 of shabaan n extra nafil prayers etc.. is all dis things r bid’ah…
