Night of Power Schedule Ideas

downloadLalatul-Qadr, the Night of Power or Decree, is the greatest night of the year. It is the night that the Holy Quran was first revealed. It is “better than a thousand months” (97:3). Worship on this night is equal to worshiping for 83 years and 4 months.

It is one of the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan. Many scholars believe that the Night of Power is the 27th night. Wednesday, June 21 is the 27th night of Ramadan for this year.

Below is a suggested schedule for this awesome night. (Sisters excused from prayer can do all of these activities except for touching an Arabic-only Quran and formal salaat.)

(Hadith Reference: Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: I asked the Messenger of Allah: ‘O Messenger of Allah, if I know what night is the night of Qadr, what should I say during it?’ He said: ‘Say: O Allah, You are pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me.’ “(Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and Tirmidhi).

Recite the following Remembrances of Allah from the Quran and Sunnah:

1. A Palm Tree Planted for You in Paradise:

The Prophet (pbuh) said, “Whoever says:

‘Subhaanallaahil-‘Adheemi wa bihamdihi.’(Glorified is Allah the Most Great and praised is He)’ will have a date palm planted for him in Paradise.” (Sahih At-Tirmithi)

2. The reward of freeing ten slaves as well as protection from satan (recite 10 times):

Laa ‘ilaaha ‘illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa ‘alaa kulli shay’in Qadeer.

None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, Who has no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise and He is Able to do all things .

Hadith Reference: “Allah will write ten Hasanaat (rewards) for whoever recites this ten times in the morning, and forgive him ten misdeeds and give him the reward of freeing ten slaves and protect him from Satan. Whoever recites this ten times in the evening will get this same reward. (Sahih An-Nasa’i)

3. Light on the Tongue, Heavy in the Balance:

Subhaanal-laahi wa bihamdih Subhaanal-laahil-‘Adheem

Our Prophet (pbuh) said in a famous hadith:
“Two statements are light on the tongue, weigh heavily in the balance, and are loved by the Most Merciful One: “Glorified is God and praised is He”
(Subhaanal-laahi wa bihamdih) and “Glorified is God the Most Great” (Subhaanal-laahil-‘Adheem).
(recorded in Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

4. Your desires are granted easily if you say this 7 times:

Hasbiyallaahu laa ‘ilaaha ‘illaa Huwa ‘alayhi tawakkaltu wa Huwa Rabbul-‘Arshil-‘Adheem .

“Allah is sufficient for me . There is none worthy of worship but Him . I have placed my trust in Him, He is Lord of the Majestic Throne.”

Hadith Reference:
“Allah will grant whoever recites this seven times in the morning or evening whatever he desires from this world or the next, Sahih Abu Dawud, Ibn As-Sunni)

5. You will be pleased on the Day of Resurrection if you Say this 3 times daily:

Radheetu billaahi Rabban, wa bil-‘Islaami deenan, wa bi-Muhammadin (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallama) Nabiyyan.

“I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion and with Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as my Prophet.”

6. A solution for all of your worries:

‘Astaghfirullaaha wa ‘atoobu ‘ilayhi.

“I seek the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him.”

The Prophet (pbuh) said, “Whoever does a lot of Istighfar, Allah will provide him a way out of each concern he has, and will solve all his troubles, and will provide him with livelihood from sources that were not known to him.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

7. Say this once to be blessed 10 times:

8.The Most Beloved Words to Allah (swt):

Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: The most beloved words to Allah are four:

Subhaanallaah, Walhamdu lillaah, Wa laa ‘ilaaha ‘illallaah and Wallaahu ‘Akbar.

Glorified is Allah, The praise is for Allah, There is none worthy of worship but Allah, Allah is the Most Great (Recorded in Muslim).

9. Protection from Calamity (said morning or evening)

Bismillaahil-lathee laa yadhurru ma’as-mihi shay’un fil-‘ardhi wa laa fis-samaa’i wa Huwas-Samee ‘ul- ‘Aleem .

In the Name of Allah, Who with His Name nothing can cause harm in the earth nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. (Recite three times in Arabic).

Hadith Reference:
“Whoever recites it three times in the morning will not be afflicted by any calamity before evening, and whoever recites it three times in the evening will not be overtaken by any calamity before morning.” (Abu Dawud, At-Tirmithi, Ibn Majah, Ahmad)

10. These two verses are “Enough” in terms of their blessings! (to be said before sleeping):

‘Aamanar-Rasoolu bimaa ‘unzila mir-Rabbihi walmu’minoon, kullun ‘aamana billaahi wa malaa’ikatihi wa Kutubihi wa Rusulihi, laa nufarriqu bayna ‘ahadim-mir-Rusulihi, wa qaaloo sami’naa wa ‘ata’naa ghufraanaka Rabbanaa wa ‘ilaykal-maseer. Laa yukallifullaahu nafsan ‘illaa wus’ahaa, lahaa maa kasabat wa ‘alayhaa mak-tasabat, Rabbanaa laa tu’aakhithnaa ‘in naseenaa ‘aw ‘akhta’naa, Rabbanaa wa laa tahmil ‘alaynaa ‘isran kamaa hamaltahu ‘alal-latheena min qablinaa, Rabbanaa wa laa tuhammilnaa maa laa taaqata lanaa bihi, wa’fu ‘annaa, waghfir lanaa warhamnaa, ‘Anta Mawlaanaa fansurnaa ‘alal-qawmil-kaafireen.
“The Messenger believes in what has been send down to him from his Lord, and so do the believers. Each one believes in Allah, His Angels, His Books, and His Messengers. They say: “We make no distinction between any of His Messengers,” and they say: “We hear, and we obey. (We seek) Your Forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return.” Allah burdens not a person beyond what he can bear. He gets reward for that (good) which he has earned, and he is punished for that (evil) which he has earned. Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error. Our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us. Our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Protector, and help us against the disbelieving people.” (Al-Baqarah 2:285-6)

Hadith Reference: “These two Verses will be sufficient for anyone who recites them at night before sleeping.” (Al-Bukhari)

Next Hour

1. Recite Allah’s Beautiful Names (link: Names of Allah)

2. Recite the short surahs that you say in your prayers, read their translations, and try to memorize their translations so you will understand them from now on insha’Allah.

SubhanAllah wa bihamdihi 100 times (Translation: Glory be to Allah, and His is the Praise)

Narrated Abu Huraira (ra): Allah’s Apostle (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Whoever says, ‘Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi,’ one hundred times a day, will be forgiven all his sins even if they were as much as the foam of the sea.” (Sahih Bukhari)
