Assume the Best and Be the Best by Saeed Muhammed Lawan

(This article was written by Br. Saeed Muhammed Lawan, may Allah reward him). Hajara came out from her room. She wore a black suit with a blue hijab
around her neck.
“Will you drop me at my workplace?” she asked.
Dr. Ali her husband replied while looking at his personal computer, “I’ll not follow that way, so you better pay for a taxi.”
“This man doesn’t like my job–he is envious,” she thought in her
mind and went without uttering a word.

Hajara assumed the worse in her husband because he said, “I will not
follow that way; you better pay for a taxi.” She began to assume that he
didn’t like her job.

Assuming the worst in others, or assuming the worst when it comes to
their intentions, opens the door for so much evil and conflict
between two people, a group or the whole society. The moment Satan
conquers your heart, and you begin to assume the worst in someone’s
intention, it’s hard to stop! This is the reason why Satan loves us to
assume the worst in someone’s action. It’s really a great loss for you
to always assume the worst in people, whether it’s your partner,
relatives or anyone you meet. The moment you let Satan conquer
your heart, from that moment the conflict will not end; the war will always
become new and fresh. If someone has a problem with you or someone
else, do not make bad assumptions about them. Develop a good character
by seeing the good in people instead of always seeing the bad in them.

Everyone makes mistakes, someone somewhere may hurt you. Do
not judge them by their rude behavior; do not take immediate action.
Remember the good things they did for you before. Remember the good,
and forget the bad. The bad comes from Satan.

“O you who believe! Avoid much negative assumption. Indeed some
assumption is sin.” [Holy Quran 49:12]

Islamweb.net writes: “Nothing relieves the heart and makes one happy more than thinking well
of others. It protects one from the harm of worrisome thoughts that
disturb peace of mind and exhaust the body. Thinking well of
others leads to a sound heart, strengthens the ties of cordiality and
love among the members of a community, and frees the hearts from
hatred and rancor” (http://www.islamweb.net/en/article/170839/thinking-well-of-others-relieves-the-heart).

The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: “Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the most false of speech. Do not seek out faults, do not spy on each other, do not contend with each other, do not envy each other, do not hate each other, and do not turn away from each other. Rather, be servants of Allah as brothers.” (Bukhari, Muslim)
